How do I get to the Expo from the scrimmages? Youll need to arrange for your own transportation to the scrimmage. Please click here to help plan your route there and back.
What to Bring: Skates, all protective gear, water, white/black t-shirt with your name and number clearly written on it, evidence of WFTDA insurance coverage (or $18) and the Liability Waiver. USARS and WFTDA have not come to an agreement regarding reciprocal coverage. What does that mean? Only WFTDA skaters are automatically covered for this scrimmage. Skaters with USARS and uninsured skaters will need to bring $18 (cash or check made out to Rose City Rollers) and sign the waiver.
Open Scrimmage Etiquette
In the same vein as Rollercon and other regional derby events, we just want everyone to have fun skating at Nationals. Thanks to the Rollercon literature for help with explaining the etiquette. Everyone knows theres a difference between open scrimmages and bouts, but sometimes its hard to put your finder on what it is.
There will be refs. Theyll call penalties according to current WFTDA rules. But mostly youre going to skate around in circles and rely on your own judgment and a heapin helping of the Douchebag Rule.
The Douchebag Rule. Dont be one.
Everyone Plays. There are two requirements: you have insurance and you have passed a minimum skills test. New girls play, vets play, and everyone in between gets to play too.
General Rules:
- If you know someone can take it, you can wail on them. We do play full contact.
- If you are a badass, save it till you know the skill levels of the girls around you.
- If in doubt, play offense, whip and assist and save the hits for the girls you know can take it.
- If youre inexperienced, say so when you line up. Theres no shame in being new and your team will look out for you more.
- Be aware that there are girls from every skill level and dont take penalties personally.
- Have fun.
