What is this tournament thing, again?

Oh, my, y'all: we just couldn't wait until November to send out this special update. We are SO excited about the Northwest Knockdown (we've been planning all YEAR) and it's gonna be great! But let's talk about something. You know how when you say a word over and over again, it begins to lose all meaning? Milk milk milk milk milk milk milk, etc.? Well, we've been saying Northwest Knockdown all year long and we realized that you may not know exactly what it is!

So. Every year, the top 12 WFTDA-ranked teams on each coast compete in a regional tournament. The top four WINNERS from each coast get to go to Nationals. Nationals is, essentially, the SUPERBOWL of flat-track roller derby, and it's held in a different place every year; in 2009, the national tournament will be held in Philly, with four regional tournaments all over the country (but none so close as Portland).

What we're saying is this: the SUPERBOWL of flat track roller derby is being held in your very own backyard, for the first (and possibly only) time. It is the best @#^$&!* derby in the whole country, and you'll be kicking yourself later if you miss it. So don't. Got it?
